Sheena Easton hasn't slowed down one bit since her heyday of hits in the '80s. The soulful Scot is back on the Strip and is taking audiences on a stroll down memory lane with a catalog of greatest hits.
Easton, who won a Grammy for Best New Artist in 1981, has no trouble filling the 75-minute show with crowd favorites. The Vegas veteran, having performed with David Cassidy in "At The Copa" at the Rio in 2000 and headlined at the Las Vegas Hilton in 2002, sings a string of songs spanning a career of more than 25 years.
Backed by a live band, Easton turns back the clock to the '80s, opening the show with rousing renditions of her Top 10 hits "Strut" and "The Lover in Me." Her crowd-pleasing performance continues throughout the night as she belts out such memorable tunes as "Morning Train," "Telefone (Long Distance Love Affair)," the Prince-penned "Sugar Walls" and "U Got the Look," "We've Got Tonight" -- her duet with Kenny Rogers -- and the James Bond theme "For Your Eyes Only."
Performing everything from a disco version of "On My Own," made popular by Patti LaBelle and Michael McDonald, to a lullaby version of Steven Sondheim's "Not While I'm Around" from Sweeney Todd, Easton showcases her emotive voice that brings the songs to life.
Easton, whose career has encompassed everything from Broadway and television to movies and music, shows off her years of experience and vocal prowess on covers such as "Say A Little Prayer," "You're No Good" and "From a Distance."
The good-humored performer also chats with the audience between songs. She talks about her career, her children and the fact that people still expect her to look as she did on her record covers way back when.
She jokes that if they remember the 22-year-old Sheena in the pictures, chances are they, too, do not look as they did 20 years ago. Easton may not be wearing a skimpy red dress on stage, but she looks and sounds just as stunning as she did when she was on top of the charts. |
